The same three women met every Monday, for 35 years. Valentine Gitoho credits her high-trust peer accountability group — women who started meeting weekly in a car park near her office — with saving her marriage. And she means it literally: "If we had gone on ourselves the way we were, we would not be together… a whole generation, our professions, many, many things would have gone south." At 32, she was a finance director, married to an up-and-coming architect, with two young kids and no one to walk with her through the hardest seasons. This group became her pillar: people who saw her, knew her, and told her the truth in love. Forty years on, she and James are still together, with three grandchildren and a whole line born out of a marriage that nearly didn't make it.
