As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are experiencing a reduction or complete loss of income, with no realistic prospect of paying work. With this in mind, Sibs Sibanda reflects on the application of the biblical worldview to seasons of unemployment.
The faithful and consistent application of a biblical lens to all of life is not straightforward, and so in this session Sibs Sibanda discusses practical ways of doing so, using the fields of business and education as examples.
Living out of the story' means that our life is not dictated by an endless list of do's and don’ts - but is a natural, and incredibly personal, overflow of the grand narrative of the Bible. This empowers us to achieve the full scope of our mission as believers.
Sibs Sibanda explains how the Bible presents a coherent story of Design, Distortion and Redemption - that not only makes sense of all of life and history, but offers genuine dignity, purpose and hope to humanity and the natural world.
Everyone needs an overarching narrative to interpret and engage with reality. As believers we need to think about the stories we tell ourselves, and how they inform the way we interact with other people, raise children, structure economies, think about art and science, and so on.
Sibs Sibanda examines the original purpose and glory of God's instruction to Adam and Eve - to build flourishing civilisations. He explains how the Cultural Mandate and the Great Commission are interconnected, and how redemptive engagement in society leads to gospel proclamation.
In this session, Sibs Sibanda challenges the sacred-secular dualism so prevalent in modern society. He calls on church leaders to equip believers for kingdom fruitfulness in the marketplace, where God has called them to be.
Understanding the concept of a worldview is critical to living out our faith as believers. In this session, Sibs Sibanda highlights the importance of seeing the world accurately, through a biblical lens.
